Job Title: Radiologic Technologist Profession: Rad Tech Specialty: Imaging Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years as Rad Tech required License: ARRT Radiography Certifications: BLS - Basic Life Support Must-Have: Must exhibit excellent communication skills as this position requires frequent verbal and written communications with physicians, patients, visitors, departmental staff, and nursing staff. Must possess the ability to function independently and under pressure while still actively participating in a team environment. Must be compliant, with a willingness to follow all policies as well as the established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position and department. Competent in all aspects of diagnostic radiology, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection. Must have an understanding of anatomy and pathology as to how they affect the quality of a procedure. Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in utilizing equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures. Acts as a clinical coordinator for imaging students. Fills out student rotation evaluations honestly and ethically. Ability to provide constructive criticism to students during their rotation. Functions as a clinical instructor for students rotating through the imaging department. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to ensure patient safety. Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and utilizes right and left markers appropriately. Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients accordingly. Responds to emergency situations and ensures crash carts are restocked and life support equipment is maintained. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient condition and properly evaluates situations for physician intervention as necessary. Verifies two unique patient identifiers and the correct clinical order prior to performing procedures per policy. Ensures patient privacy and comfort are accommodated. Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Utilizes critical thinking skills and seeks clarification on any ambiguous orders. Understands, demonstrates, and documents pre-procedural verification and Time Out processes when appropriate. Demonstrates and understands pre-and post-procedural care and prepares the patient for procedures. Maintains competency with venipuncture, where applicable. Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique to ensure patient safety while maintaining image quality. Reports issues with malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor for timely resolution. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment according to infection control policies and departmental schedules. Able to operate all radiographic equipment in a safe and competent manner. Patiently explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients prior to procedures to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Ensures patient questions, concerns, or contraindications are satisfactorily addressed. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory instructions and explanations of procedures. Documentation must be concise, legible, and use precise terminology. Consistently produces high-quality images with appropriate collimation, shielding, technique selection, penetration, and positioning. Ensures equipment is operational prior to each use by checking for proper calibration and operating deficiencies. Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining clean and orderly conditions in the imaging services area. Transports and positions patients, assisting them on and off procedure tables as required. Performs patient charging activities on the same day as the service is rendered. Applies shielding, supportive, and immobilization devices and equipment. Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others as needed. Performs routine clerical and support duties when warranted to ensure continuity and quality of services. Keeps supervisors informed about responsibilities and promptly notifies them of any issues. Maintains an individual productivity rate comparable to coworkers. Adheres to regulatory agency standards. Performs other duties as assigned.
