Job Title: Radiologic Technologist Profession: Radiologic Technologist Specialty: Imaging Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years as Radiologic Technologist License: ARRT Radiography Certifications: BLS - Basic Life Support Must-Have: Excellent communication skills. Ability to function independently and under pressure. Detail-oriented with the capacity to multitask. Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures. Acts as a clinical coordinator for imaging students. Fills out student rotation evaluations honestly and ethically. Ability to provide constructive criticism to students during their rotation. Functions as a clinical instructor for students rotating through the Medical Imaging department. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media so that no patient condition deteriorates and no patient suffers undue pain due to error or poor technique. Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and that right and left markers are utilized appropriately. Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and provides for the restocking of crash carts and maintenance of life support equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient condition and properly evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary. Verifies two unique patient identifiers and correct clinical order prior to performing a procedure per policy. Ensures patient's privacy and comfort are accommodated. Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physicians' instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Uses critical thinking skills and asks clarifying questions. Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Understands, demonstrates, and documents pre-procedural verification and Time Out processes when appropriate. Demonstrates and understands pre- and post-procedural care. Preps the patient for the procedure and demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Maintains competency with venipuncture, where applicable. Equipment: Demonstrates the ability to adjust techniques to ensure the patient receives the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality. Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to supervisors so that the problem can be corrected in a timely manner. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policy and departmental schedules. Ability to operate all aspects of the imaging systems and radiographic equipment in a safe and competent manner. Education and Communication: Patiently and clearly explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients prior to procedures to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Ensures that patients' questions, concerns, or contraindications are satisfactorily addressed. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory instruction and explanations of procedures. Ensures required documentation is concise, legible, and includes precise terminology. Reads and follows through with daily communications while scheduled to work. Completes mandatory departmental education without prompting. Quality Control: Consistently produces high-quality images, including appropriate collimation, shielding, technique selection, penetration, and positioning. Ensures that equipment is fully operational before each use by checking for proper calibration and operating deficiencies. Verifies all studies are complete and accurately documented. Checks for prior exams and ensures they are properly labeled. Operations: Restocks linens and supplies, and maintains Imaging Services in clean and orderly condition. Transports patients, positions patients, and assists them on and off procedure tables. Performs patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered. Applies shielding and immobilization devices as needed. Provides knowledge and assistance to others upon request. Performs routine duties of clerical and support personnel when warranted. Maintains a productivity rate equal to other co-workers. Maintains compliance with all applicable standards and regulations. Takes call when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all relevant policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
