Job Description:
Job Title: Mammography Technologist Profession: Mammography
Technician Specialty: Imaging Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours
per Shift: Mon-Fri 8a-5p Experience: Minimum 1 year experience as a
Radiologic Technologist and 1 year experience in Mammography
preferred License: ARRT Mammography required Certifications: Basic
Life Support (BLS) required Must-Have: Excellent communication
skills Ability to function independently and under pressure Ability
to prioritize tasks effectively Detail-oriented and capable of
multitasking Competence in all aspects of Mammography, patient
positioning, and radiation protection Description: Must be flexible
with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable,
accountable, and cooperative. Assists in providing safe,
age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according
to department procedures. Holds knowledge and ability to obtain
quality diagnostic studies safely. Responsible for performing a
variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment and
initiative. Sets up equipment to provide imaging service and
positions patients for procedures. Maintains minimum requirements
for continuing education and experience. Obtains complete clinical
history and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Ensures all
studies have proper patient identification and markers used
appropriately. Reviews radiographic images for clinically
acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency
situations using critical thinking skills. Seeks clarification on
ambiguous orders. Assists other technologists in all modalities as
needed. Observes patient condition and evaluates situations needing
physician intervention. Verifies two unique patient identifiers and
clinician orders prior to procedures. Ensures patients' privacy and
comfort are accommodated. Demonstrates competence in applying
appropriate procedures and techniques based on patient age.
Understands and documents Pre-Procedure Verification and Time-Out
processes when applicable. Organizes schedule and priorities to
accomplish required activities within designated time frames.
Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and
exams. Practices Read Back and Confirm when taking verbal orders.
Demonstrates ability to adjust techniques to maintain image
quality. Reports equipment malfunctions in a timely manner. Cleans,
disinfects, and maintains equipment according to infection control
policies. Explains purpose and nature of exams to patients to
minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Addresses patients'
questions, concerns, or contraindications satisfactorily.
Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees.
Provides patients with preparatory instructions and explanations of
procedures. Maintains concise and legible documentation. Completes
mandatory education without prompting. Produces acceptable images,
maintaining a first-time acceptance rate of 95 percent. Checks
equipment for proper calibration and operating deficiencies prior
to use. Maintains documentation to meet accreditation standards.
Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining a clean and orderly
department. Transports and positions patients, helping them on and
off procedure tables. Performs patient charging activities on the
day service is rendered. Applies shielding and prepares patient
follow-up data. Lends knowledge and assistance to others as
requested. Performs clerical and support duties as warranted to
ensure quality services. Keeps supervisor informed on
responsibilities, ensuring prompt notification of potential
problems. Maintains productivity rate comparable to co-workers.
Familiar with Mammography Tracking System, Joint Commission
standards, and regulatory agency standards. Completes other duties
as assigned. Complies with all policies, professional standards,
and protocols.
